Doris C. Newman, 72, of rural route Maribel passed away on Friday evening, June 4, 2010, at her home after a two-month battle with cancer. She was born February 20, 1938 in Sturgeon Bay to the late Herman and Evelyn (Teich) Demmin. Doris and Joseph Newman were united in marriage on February 9, 1957 and they shared 53 years together. Doris spent 36 years as a cook for the Denmark School District lunch program and retired from her position as head cook at the Denmark Elementary School in 2005. Besides cooking Doris enjoyed gardening, baking, many outdoor activities, and spending time with her family. Survivors include her loving husband, Joseph; daughter, Deborah Landt; 2 grandsons, Benjamin (Dawn) Landt and Patrick Landt, all of Denmark; 2 sisters; Darlene (Ken) Kreger, Richland Center and Lori (Dave) Voecks, Sturgeon Bay; brother, Ralph (Cheryl) Demmin, Denmark; and sisters-in-law, Marcella (Gerald) Novak and Mary (Francis) Pietsch, all of Denmark. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Lester Landt; and parents-in-law, Hilbert and Clara Newman. Family and friends may call Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at All Saints Catholic Church, 125 St. Claude St., Denmark, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Tuesday at 11:00a.m. with the Rev. Ron Colombo officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Catholic Cemetery. Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
