Alice “Moomie” Schlies, age 86, of Maribel, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. On May 21, 1928, she was born to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Hoyer) Oskey. On April 9, 1949 she married Robert Schlies at All Saints Catholic Church in Denmark. She was employed as a cheese maker and spray painter. Alice enjoyed: reading, sewing Christmas stockings, talking with her daughters, cooking, canning and shake 3 (dice). She was a member of St. James Catholic Church is Cooperstown. Survivors include her children: Dick (Linda) Schlies, Diane (Darrell) Johnson, Robert Schlies, Jr., Luann (Gary) Taicher, Susie (Tommy) Siebold, Rosa (Jake) Gehrke, and Mark (Jeannie Cleven) Schlies; a daughter-in-law, Sandy Schlies; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her brother: Al (Elaine) Oskey and two brother-in-laws: Harris Schlies and Ray Schlies. In addition to her husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Schlies; her brothers and sisters: Elmer (Goldie) Oskey, Dorothy (Eddie) DeSmith, Millie (Sonny) Vanrite and Betty (Don) Hoffman. Family and friends may visit at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, Denmark, on Friday, January 9, from 4-7pm. A parish prayer service will conclude the visitation on Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 9-10am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown, with the Rev. Maurice Mmegbuadimma officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice, Dr. Mark, Sister Gerri and Fr. Maurice for the care and concern shown to them.
