Carol Koomen

Carol Koomen, age 89, of Greenleaf, entered eternal life on October 5, 2024. The daughter of the late Donald and Norma Gilson was born August 10, 1935 in Green Bay.

Carol spent the earlier years of her life in Greenleaf before moving to Kent City, Michigan, in 1945, where she was confirmed at Conklin Lutheran Church on April 10, 1949. She later exchanged vows with her beloved husband, Leston K. Koomen, on November 14, 1953, at the same church. In 1961, they returned to Wisconsin, where Carol embarked on a career at Larsen Food Company, dedicating over three decades of service. She also worked part-time at Ashwaubenon Tax for 20 years, demonstrating her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

A devoted member of Hope Lutheran Church, Carol actively served her faith community in various capacities, from Sunday School teacher and Superintendent to Ladies Guild Member and financial secretary.

Beyond her church involvement, Carol was also a passionate advocate for preserving history, actively participating in the Wrightstown Historical Society and delving into extensive genealogical research.

She is survived by her son Gary (Joy) Koomen; daughter Marian Cleven; grandchildren: Christy (Tom) Pavlik, John (Michelle) Koomen, Shannon Koomen, Amanda (Charles) Novitski; great-grandchildren: Jaeger, Nevaeh, Troy, Arther and Tenley Pavlik, Desiree, Ashlyn, Kayliegh and Brennyn Koomen, Dariann (Elijah) Zimmerman, Angelina (Matt), Emma and Jaxson Novitski; great-great-grandchildren: Carter and Nora Zimmerman; sister-in-law Mary Gilson; Goddaughters: Kim (Dave) Beining and Liz Winkler Hawkes; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Leston K. Koomen; parents Don and Norma (Winkler) Gilson; in-laws: John and Leona (Cousineau) Koomen; sister Marian (Gilson) Austen; brother Roger Gilson; brother and sister-in-law: Wayne and Joan Koomen as well as a niece Patty Koomen.

Family and friends may visit at Hope Lutheran Church, 700 S. Superior Street, De Pere, on Friday, October 11, from 8:30am until 10:15am. Funeral service will be held at 10:30am with Pastor Matt Baye officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations may be made to the Wrightstown Historical Society or Angels of Hope Preschool at Hope Lutheran Church in De Pere.
