Dallas V. Nelsen

July 21, 1936 — March 20, 2012

Dallas V. Nelsen, 75, Denmark, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012. He was born July 21, 1936, son of the late Raymond and Grace (Marcussen) Nelsen. Dallas grew up on a farm in Langes Corners, attended Langes School and graduated from Denmark High School. He joined the Marines and spent time in Okinawa and was honorably discharged in 1958 to return home to help his father with the family farm. He worked at Northern Paper Mills but preferred outside work so he spent the next 27 years with concrete construction building streets, highways, and pre-cast structures in several states. The last 11 years before retirement he worked for the Brown County Highway Department. On May 9, 1964, Dallas and Leona (Lee) Cisler were married at St. Joseph’s Church in Pilsen. Dallas and Lee built a home in Langes Corners and raised their family for the next 35 years. After retirement in 1998, Dallas and Lee enjoyed spending time at their cottages on Nelligan Lake. Dallas was an usher for the Green Bay Packers and attended every home game with his wife, sister, and brother-in-law for over 20 years. He was and always will be an avid Packers fan. Dallas was a member of the Denmark Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones award for his work with the elderly and needy. He enjoyed trips, hunting, visiting with friends, playing sheepshead and time spent at Nelligan Lake. Survivors include his wife, Leona (Lee); four children and ten grandchildren: Eric (Janell) Nelsen, and their children: Tori, Taylor, Lauren and Jackson; Troy Nelsen; Pam (John) Watzka and their children: Josh, Kristi (special friend, Graig), Jason, Steven, Jeff, Michael, Emily, Maggie, and their families; and Mark (Brandy) Nelsen and their children: Emily, Hannah, and Aiden; one sister, Arnell Jorgensen; sister-in-law, Maxine Nelsen; brother-in-law, Lloyd Gutzman; Leona’s family: sister-in-law, Carole Oudenhoven; brothers-in-law, Cletus (Nancy) Cisler, and Vince (Joan) Cisler; sisters-in-law, Sharon Cisler and Rosalyn Cisler Simonar. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Darlene Gutzman; two brothers, LeRoy Nelsen and Darwin Nelson; sister-in-law, Vivian Nelson; brother-in-law, Alan Jorgensen; sister-in-law, Stella Bielke; brothers-in-law, Bernard, Alvin and George Cisler, Ray Bielke and Don Oudenhoven. Family and friends may call Thursday, March 22, 2012 (TODAY), from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 Cty R, Denmark. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.(PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN FUNERAL TIME) at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Denmark, with Pastor Andrew Zoerb officiating. Interment with full military honors will be in All Saints Cemetery, Denmark. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Special thanks to the staff at Parkview Manor for taking such good care of Dallas for the past six years, and to Unity Hospice.
