Daniel A. Bollom

April 25, 1936 — November 3, 2024

Green Bay, WI

Daniel A. “Dan” Bollom, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was born to eternal life on November 3, 2024. On April 25, 1936, he was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to Ralph and Grace (Tennessen) Bollom. After high school he attended Oshkosh State Teachers College, ultimately finishing his education at the University of Wisconsin Madison. From life lessons learned growing up with his family, he worked hard and that drive led to many successes. After college he started working at Wisconsin Public Service and the greater Green Bay area would be his home for the remainder of his life. At WPS, he started as an accountant and moved up the ranks through his 39 years there, eventually achieving the rank of president and CEO of the company, a position he retired from in 1997. Outside WPS Dan was especially active in education throughout the community. He served on the educational boards of the De Pere Public Schools, Brown County Children with Disabilities, Notre Dame Catholic School, and St. Norbert College. Additionally, his expert leadership led to several corporate directorship positions throughout northeast Wisconsin. Dan’s leadership left an indelible mark, and he will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, integrity, and compassion. Those who worked with him knew him as an unselfish mentor, friend, and true leader.

Dan met the love of his life, Catherine “Penny” Dollar, while working at WPS, and they were happily married for 64 years, until her death on October 27, 2023.

Dan’s greatest love, after Penny, was his family. He and Penny raised four successful children, Greg, Steve, David and Mary Beth. He was an excellent role model. Dan loved the time he spent with his children, first while they were growing up on vacation at the “Lodge” in St. Germain where his children will always remember him as the best and most willing ski boat driver, no matter the weather. Later he loved to spend time with his grandchildren in Door County and Florida. In Green Bay, he enjoyed taking them fishing, golfing, playing cribbage, and riding in the golf cart. Much of that time concluded with lunch at The Rite Place.

Dan had many interests. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing trips to Canada with his brothers, and spending winters in Florida with Penny. In his retirement, Dan wrote and published a book, What Makes Dan Bollom So Tall.

Both Dan and Penny believed in providing for future generations. Education was especially important to them. Together, they created the Bollom Family Fund through the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation to assist area nonprofit organizations and fund scholarships for area students hoping to pursue their own dreams through further education. Countless students have benefitted from the Fund and will continue to do so forever. Reading a thank you note sent by one of the beneficiaries always brought a smile to their faces!

He is survived by his children: Greg (Kathy DeMets), Steve (Mary), David (Maria Ambrose), Mary Beth (David) Niebler; grandchildren: Andrea (Dan) Higgins, Emily (Logan) Phillipps, Matthew (Melany) Bollom, Patrick (Jenna Becker) Bollom, Mark Bollom, Hannah Niebler, and Celia Niebler; great-grandchildren: Beau, Blake, Remi and Theodore; brother William (Kathy) Bollom; sister Lola (LeRoy) Schroeder; Penny’s family: Dave (Sherry) Dollar; sister-in-law Nancy Dollar.

In addition to his parents, Ralph and Grace, along with his wife Penny, Dan was proceeded in death by his brother Ralph Jr. (Donna) Bollom, and his grandson Andy Niebler.

On the dedication page of his book, Dan writes this to his family:

“It is my hope that they will enjoy and learn from the past and in doing so, may create an even better tomorrow.”
