David R. Smith

David R. Smith, age 84, of De Pere, passed away suddenly at home on September 1, 2022. The son of Robert C. Smith and Jane Beisel Curtis was born in Green Bay on February 17, 1938. He attended Irwin School in De Pere, De Pere High School and Sir Frances Drake High School in San Francisco. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and went on to work 37 years for the Green Bay and Western Railway and Chicago Northwestern Railway. David was an avid reader, a historian and a WWII buff. David enjoyed watching baseball and football on TV and attending local sporting events with his sons. David was an intelligent, witty, quiet gentleman who always had a kind word and a smile.

Survivors include his children: Kenneth C. Smith, Jennifer B. (Jeff Nicklas) Smith, Katherine “Kate” L. (Kenneth Lester) Smith, Joshua D. (Lisa Quezada) Smith; grandchildren: Ashley Vickery, Lyia Lester and Jakob Lester; half-siblings: Peter, Jane, Margaret, Diane and Judy; in-laws: Eugene Forrest, Denise Lasee, Jane (John) Switzer, Jim Lasee and Dennis (Margaret) Lasee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lasee Smith; parents Robert C. Smith and Jane Beisel Curtis; half-sibling Mark Smith; in-laws: Kitty Forrest, Charles (Rosalie) Lasee, Kenneth Lasee and Cynthia Coenen Lasee.

A private gathering for family was held. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
