July 27, 1958 — August 25, 2013

Doug Elsner, Jr., age 55, of Ledgeview, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Sunday, August 25, while doing what he loved, biking in Door County. He was born in Rockford, Illinois on July 27, 1958 to Doug, Sr. and Mildred Elsner. Doug attended Danz Elementary School, followed by Edison Middle School and Preble High School. He later graduated from UW-Green Bay with a degree in business and finance. He worked as a regional sales manager for Metso Paper, Inc. He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Allouez. Next to his family and friends Doug’s greatest love was being in Door County. Doug was an amazing builder and handyman, using his talents to do most of the construction on their beautiful vacation home himself. He spent many hours watching the sunsets and building bonfires. Doug loved outdoor sports, especially downhill skiing, biking, boating, jet skiing, fishing, golfing, disco dancing and being at the beach. He had an amazing knowledge of sports trivia and was an avid history buff. He had conservative values and beliefs. Doug’s favorite saying was “Control your own destiny or someone else will.” Doug is survived by his loving wife, Claudia; son, Connor (special friend, Alyssa); daughter, Anna; parents, Doug Sr.and Mildred; brothers, Greg (Carmen); Steve (Sharon); Scott (June); Todd (Julie); his in-laws, Al and Alice Zeller; Colleen (Mark) Boland, Char (Dean) Freeberg, Mark (Maribeth) Zeller, Tom (Mary) Zeller, Paul (Mary) Zeller; family pet, Sadie; many nieces, nephews, special family and friends. Family and friends may visit at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2911 Libal Street, Allouez, on Thursday, August 29, from 4-8pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9-9:45am at the church. Funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, with the Rev. Lori Swenson officiating. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are being established for: his children’s education, the American Heart Association and the Wounded Warrior Project. Doug’s family would like to thank the First Responders, Door County Memorial ER staff, and all who helped during this difficult time. Also, a special thank you to Gordon Tate for his help.
