Douglas "Doug" Frase

Douglas G. “Doug” Frase, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Woodside Nursing Home. Doug was born on April 7, 1924 in Beaver Dam to the late Alma and Bert Frase. Doug proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart. He finished out the war in the field artillery and as a German translator. On June 26, 1954 he married the love of his life, Marge Greisinger at St. Joseph’s Church in Crandon. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. After his discharge, Doug pursued his love of woodworking by attending school under the GI Bill. He worked in the construction field and pursued a lifelong career as an excellent finishing carpenter and cabinet maker. He took great pride in his work as he worked on many homes in the Green Bay area, including the Green Bay Packers, and remodeling his family home on Christiana St. He was one of the few that could build a circular stairway. Doug was an active member of the American Legion Post Sullivan- Wallen 0011. He was a past state sergeant of arms and attended many state conventions over the years. He was also a member of the VFW Post 7534, the 40/8 voiture 774, and the DAV chapter 3. Doug loved building things for his children and grandchildren. He was a skilled woodworker. He loved to garden and make his specialty salsa with his daughter Susan. He could make the best potato pancakes and potato soup. Doug waited 33 years for Packer tickets, which he passed onto his sons. He loved to watch and attend Packers games. He also loved his polka music and maps. He was incredible with directions when driving and loved to travel especially flying to visit his family in California, Maine, and Colorado. In his early years he loved fishing and hunting. What Doug loved most was spending time with Marge, traveling, and sitting on his patio talking and reminiscing. Doug was always proud of the education and achievements of his children whom he loved dearly. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a faith filled man with a love for the lord while attending mass each Sunday. He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish. Doug is survived by his wife Marge, seven children: Patrick Frase, Michael (Cyndee) Frase, Tom (Susan) Frase, Mary (Jay) Throne, Susan Fuller, Ann (Tom) Meyer, Dan (Margie) Frase; 14 grandchildren: Emalee, Nick, Clarissa, Caitlin, Adam, Andrew, Zacharie, David, Kristina, Joshua, Jeremy, Jason, Andrea, McKayla; four great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law: Lynn Greisinger, Arlene Nelson, Nancy Greisinger, Dororthy Strassmann; four brothers-in-law: Ray Greisinger, Clifford Nelson, Tim Greisinger, Robert Strassmann; and numerous nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Harold Frase, and Russell Frase, sisters Ethel Karas, Lorraine Ehlers, Linda Strassmann, Adeline Heppner, and grandson Aaron Frase. Family and friends may at visit Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, on Wednesday, August 19, 2015, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a veterans service at 7:15 pm, followed by a closing prayer service at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 2270 S Oneida St, Ashwaubenon, Thursday, from 10:00 am until 10:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am Thursday with the Rev. John H. Harper, officiating. Entombment will take place at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
