Elizabeth “Betty” Dunne, 90, Green Bay/De Pere, passed away Tuesday, October 02, 2012. She was born in Waupaca, WI on August 13, 1922, daughter to the late Luke and Annis Dunne. In 1927, the family moved to De Pere where she lived her entire life. She was a graduate of Nicolet High School, Lawrence University, and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She taught choral music in Wisconsin schools for 39 years, the last 28 were at Preble High School. In 1971, the first swing choir in the area was organized which later evolved into today’s show choir. This group was the first Preble group to enter into national competitions sponsored by “Music Maestro”. The group took top honors at both the Chicago and Colorado Springs locations; they also spent weekends singing at other high schools and visiting various spots. Today students from these groups meet for their annual reunions. Betty was choral director for St. Norbert Summer Musicals for 21 years. After she retired from teaching in 1984, she became very dedicated to local service groups volunteering at St. Vincent Hospital, serving as President of the Auxiliary, chairing St. Vincent Fashion Show for 18 years, served on First Friends Board and other various committees, president of Catholic Woman’s Club, Member of De Pere Woman’s Club, Green Bay Antiquarians, and Friends of the Symphony.
