Esther Ruth (Rose) Janssen

December 10, 1926 — December 26, 2017

Esther Ruth (Rose) Janssen age 91, De Pere, passed away on December 26, 2017 with her family by her side. A daughter of the late Adolph and Hildegarde (Danz) Rose, Esther was born December 10, 1926, in Bellevue. Esther married the love of her life, Louis Janssen on June 4, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, De Pere WI, where they remained devoted members. Esther was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Ladies Society. Throughout Esther’s life she was a loving stay at home Mom for her 7 children and 1 foster child. Along with raising her family, Esther and her husband were vegetable truck gardeners. For 28 years, they attended 3 farmer markets a week in Green Bay and De Pere, where they sold fresh vegetables and poultry. Esther worked hard on ensuring the produce was fresh, clean and ready to sell. Esther helped to pack cheese at Eilers Cheese factory during the holiday season, and assisted with the polls at the Rockland Town Hall on election days. Esther enjoyed bowling, polka dancing, playing cards and dice with family, neighbors, and friends. Esther was well known for planning parties and get-togethers, and valued holiday celebrations with her family. She loved decorating the house for every season. She was an avid baker and enjoyed sharing sweet goodies, fresh vegetables, or homemade breads and soups with those she visited. She was also known for making a mean old fashion or grasshopper. Esther was a giving and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She had a genuine way of complementing others, and was ever so proud of her family. She enjoyed sharing meals with family, neighbors and friends, and never missed recognizing a birthday or anniversary. Her love and thoughtfulness will be missed, but never forgotten. Esther is survived by her loving husband Louis of 68 years, and her 7 children: Mike (Julie) Janssen, Rick (Laurie) Janssen, Diane (Dave) Woelfel, Dave (Sue) Janssen, Cindy (Dave) Van Veghel, Rose (Dave) Hockers, Randy (Tricia) Janssen; 24 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
