Florence (Smits) Moenssens

Florence T. Moenssens, age 91, of De Pere, passed away October 20, 2013. The daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Sanders) Smits was born January 4, 1922 in De Pere. She married Edward Moenssens on February 23, 1945 at St. Mary Catholic Church in De Pere, and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1996. She had a passion for knitting and was a faithful volunteer for St. Vincent Hospital. Florence had a genuine sense of humor and a love of all sports, especially football on Packer Sunday. Her family was her greatest joy, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children: Michael (Kathy) Moenssens of De Pere, and Robert (Janice) Moenssens of Geneseo, IL; 4 granddaughters: Jennifer (Doug) Parent, Melissa (Eric) Dudek, Nicole (Brian) Klika, and Katie (Scott) Komp; 7 great-grandchildren: Jackson, Sam, Noah, Riley, Bennett, Mia and Maci; a sister, Joyce Hendricks; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Edward; 3 brothers; 3 sisters and numerous in-laws. Friends may call at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St, De Pere, from 9:00am until 10:45am on Thursday, October 24. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
