Gerald "Jerry" Mikulsky

June 22, 1933 — January 26, 2013

Gerald “Jerry” Mikulsky, 79, of Allouez, passed away Saturday, January 26. He was born on June 22, 1933 in Preble, of the late Philip and Lucille (née Nowak) Mikulsky, and raised from the age of 11 by same late Philip and second mother whom he deeply loved Dorothy (née Moore) Mikulsky. Although his death was quick and unexpected from a bout with the flu, Jerry had valiantly fought Wegener’s disease for the past 44 years of his life. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War. On May 18, 1957, he married Patricia (née Dimmer) at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Green Bay. Jerry worked at Wisconsin Public Service for over 39 years, retiring in 1995. He and Pat were active in their community and their Church; Jerry was a Eucharistic Minister at Resurrection Parish, and was an active member of the Norbertine Associates at St. Norbert Abbey. He and Pat were involved in the Marriage Preparation Program at the Diocese and in Cursillo, and he was a regular volunteer at the House of Hope, St. Vincent de Paul, and the Historical Committee for Wisconsin Public Service. Jerry was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia; children, Julia (and Geoffrey) Price, Kenosha, WI and their children, Natalie (and Mike) Winterle, Isabel and Caroline; Nancy (and Doug) Antle, Louisville, KY and their children, Jason Brogan and Ryan; Lisa Mikulsky (and Barry Wilson), Benicia, CA and their daughter, Dana Wilson; Sandra Mikulsky, Minneapolis, MN; Thomas (and Leann) Mikulsky, Springfield, GA and their children Kailyn, Emilee and Abby; and Tracy (and Thomas) Ebert, Whitefish Bay, WI and their children Jonathan, Allison, Annalise and Tess; eleven siblings, Eugene (and Agatha), twin sister Carole (and Jim) Ziemer, Rose (and Clayton) Smits, Judy (and Roger) Jacobsen, Phillip (and Sue), David (and Kathy), Lawrence (and Jo-Ann), Kathleen (and David) Riebe, Virginia (and John) Lippert, Christine Mikulsky, and Annette (and John) Kimble; and many loving nieces and nephews and other family members and friends including the Turtles. Friends may call at St. Norbert Abbey, 1016 North Broadway, De Pere, from 7-9pm on Tuesday, January 29th and again from 9:30-11am on Wednesday, January 30th. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am on Wednesday at the Abbey, with Bishop Robert Morneau and Abbot Gary Neville concelebrating. Entombment will be held at Allouez Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home of De Pere is assisting the family with arrangements. Please visit www.cotterfuneralhome.com to send online condolences to the Mikulsky family. Jerry was a very special, loving, down-to-earth, good man-- full of wit, faith in God, common sense, and good advice, who always saw the glass half full. He considered himself blessed with a wonderful family and a great, enduring circle of friends. He had a big heart and sincerely cared for many, was an avid gardener and bird lover. In retirement, Jerry and Pat loved to travel, visiting their children and grandchildren around the United States, and making a trip to Poland and another to France in recent years. His breakfast buddies were a cherished part of his days where they’d solve the world’s problems over coffee. He was an avid Packer fan and a certified armchair coach. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Norbertine Mission or to Encompass Daycare’s Philip and Dorothy Mikulsky Scholarship Fund. The family wishes to thank St. Vincent Hospital’s ICU and all of his healthcare givers over the years for their kind and tender treatment.
