Gordon L. Dobratz

July 10, 1925 — April 13, 2014

Gordon L. Dobratz, 88, Allouez, was called to Glory on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Angel’s Touch Assisted Living, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 10, 1925 in Shawano, WI, son of the late Walter and Mabel (Brusewitz) Dobratz. Gordon graduated from Shawano High School and served his country in the United States Army as a Corporal from 1943 to 1946. During his service he was a bugler and was an MP with the California State Patrol. Gordon married Angie Rosenberg on June 9, 1951 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. When he was honorably discharged, Gordon followed in his father’s footsteps in the cattle business early in his career. He later worked at the Green Bay Correctional Institution until his retirement in 1986. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling in his RV with his loving wife, Angie. Gordon enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead, fishing, and camping. He will be deeply missed by his devoted, loving wife, Angie; three children and their spouses: Jeff (Mary Jeanne) Dobratz, Mary Ellen (Gary) Baierl, and Sue Ann (Ron) Szcepanski; four grandchildren: Jacob (fiancé- Trina Teresi) and Hannah Dobratz, Lea (Mike) Baierl Walschinski, and Jason (Heather) Baierl; two great grandchildren, Sophia Angeline Baierl and Rose Elizabeth Walschinski; one brother, Roland (JoAnn) Dobratz; sister, Nancy (Glenn) Cummings; one sister-in-law, Althea Dobratz; and brother-in-law, Irvin (Shirley) Rosenberg. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Mary Joan Dobratz; granddaughter, Elizabeth Mary; and his brothers: Eugene and Douglas. Family and friends may call Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Ave., Allouez, with the Rev. Joshua Errer officiating. Full military honors will follow the funeral. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in his name. The family extends a special thank you to all the wonderful staff at Angel’s Touch for their compassionate and loving care shown to Gordon and his family, and for the loving, special support of his neighbors, Gerald and Betty Gajewski.
