Hayden Donald Groy

December 10, 1928 — February 17, 2021

Hayden D. Groy, age 92, passed away February 17, 2021. The son of Herman C. and Dora (Beuster) Groy was born December 10, 1928 in Kewanee, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1948 at MacArthur’s Headquarters in Tokyo. He was proud of his military service and the privilege of serving at such a prestigious facility as an 18-year-old from small town Illinois. Hayden later graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Master’s Degree. On February 9, 1952 he married his wife, Shirley, an artist, in Champaign, IL; she preceded him in death.
Hayden was the director of the Reedsburg Campus for Madison College. His proudest achievements there were supervising the building of the school’s current home and establishing a nursing program on the Reedsburg Campus. Following retirement Hayden continued to be active in the community as co-chair of the Reedsburg Library building project, the VFW and his church. In his spare time he enjoyed being outdoors, farming and traveling extensively in the United States and Europe.
In 2006 he moved to Green Bay to be with Anneliese Waggoner. He made many friends, enjoyed the Lifelong Learning Program at UWGB and the Quaker Fellowship.
Survivors include: his life partner, Anneliese Waggoner; son Jeffrey (Gail) of Verona, Wisconsin; grandchildren Matt Groy, Michael Groy, Ryan (Sara) Groy, Kassie (Mitch) Lederman; step-grandchildren Katherine Worley, Sarah Worley and Amelia Worley; and great-grandchildren Marlee, Lyla, Camden and Charlotte.
In addition to his parents and wife, Hayden was preceded in death by his son: Douglas Groy; brother: Leslie Groy; sisters: Elsie Ball and Evelyn Groy.
A private family service was held at Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care, De Pere, WI.
