Helen Wellens

October 12, 1935 — June 21, 2024

Helen M. (Belongia) Wellens, age 88, passed away on June 21, 2024 at home with family by her side. The daughter of the late Elmer and Kathryn (Lipp) Belongia was born October 12, 1935. She graduated from Green Bay East High School as part of the class of 1953. On September 17, 1955 she married Robert Wellens at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay, and he preceded her in death in 2020. Helen worked for Spence Mecord Drug and Whittaker General Medical. She was a member of the PBX Telecommunicators Club and enjoyed bowling, card playing, canning, and camping. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ledgeview for many years.


Helen is survived by her daughter Theresa Dresang; grandchild Bryan; step-granddaughters: Tiana and Amber; step-great-grandchildren: Talon, Serenity, Atreyu; brother-in-law Dan (Peggy) Wellens; several special nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law David Dresang, Jr.; sisters: LaVerne (Richard) Salmon and Carol (Dennis) Vanden Boogart; brother Russell Belongia; brother-in-law Don (Anna) Quinnette; nieces Lynn Barnard and Lisa Wellens; nephew Ted “Butch” Peters and Robert’s parents Henry and Lucille Wellens (Van Duyse).


Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, on Sunday, June 30, from 6-8pm. Visitation will continue on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 4805 Sportsman Drive, Ledgeview, from 9:30am until 10:15am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am with the Rev. Mike Ingold officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.


Our family would like to thank the caregivers of Heartland Hospice, especially Cindy, Nicole and Chaplain Will.
