James Brady passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in the Town of Franklin, Kewaunee County, on August 15, 1938 to James and Luella (Hannan) Brady. At five years old he moved to De Pere, and attended school at St. Francis and St. Norbert High School. Jim served in the US Army Reserves from 1959-1965. He married Carol Gordon on October 13, 1962 at St. Patrick’s Church. He was a career truck driver for Consolidated Freightways and a member of the IBT local 75. He volunteered at the De Pere Christian Outreach, where he was recently recognized for 30 years of service.
In his leisure time he loved to garden, collect jerseys, take videos and go to the Out of Town Club. His family meant the entire world to him and he was always available to help one of his girls or go to a sporting event or driving lesson for his grandchildren. He was well known for wearing his sombrero hat every time he stepped outside, so he could stay out of the sun. Floating in the pool was another favorite summertime activity. He loved to have fun and had the best imagination. A particular point of pride was seeing the Packers play under every coach from Curly Lambeau to Matt LaFleur as a season ticket holder. He found joy in attending De Pere Historical Society photo shows. He loved the city and all the people of De Pere.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Luella, siblings, Monnie, Terry and Ellen. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Brady as well as his four daughters and their families. They include: Sheila, Jim, Paul, Haley and Megan Growt, Beth, Jeff, Brady and Jack (fiancee Brittini) Calaway, Polly, Reid, Michael and Alex Kaplan, Kacy, Grant, Aiden and Eleanor Schilling.
Jim’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, February 22 at Cotter Funeral Home from 9:00 - 11:30 am with a memorial service at 11:30.
