Janet Caffrey

August 4, 1930 — November 17, 2023

Janet Helen Caffrey, 93, of Green Bay, WI, passed away on November 17th, 2023. She was born August 4th, 1930, in Rockwood, WI, to Frank Gosz Sr. and Ethel Gosz.

After high school Janet moved to Milwaukee to work as a nurse’s aid. She enjoyed her experience, and while there, she met Jim at a Halloween costume party. Not long after, Janet married James F. Caffrey on July 18th, 1952, at St. Ann’s church in Francis Creek, WI. They moved to Green Bay in 1961 where they raised their nine children.

Janet was an active volunteer and found great pleasure volunteering at St. John’s Homeless Shelter, Love Life, Paul’s Pantry, St. John’s church, and the Historical and Antiquarian Societies. Janet was an animal lover. Along with nine children, her household usually included a dog and 2 cats. She always believed the kids when they claimed that they would take care of them.

She loved spending time at her cottage in Dyckesville, WI, entertaining family and friends and enjoying happy hours and sunsets. Her home was a welcoming place to all and as she called it “Grand Central Station.”

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Caffrey, her daughter, Molly Caffrey, and her parents, Frank and Ethel Gosz.

Janet is survived by her brother, Frank Gosz , Jr., her children Elizabeth Caffrey (John Skeele), Sitka, AK, Bridget Caffrey (Bruce Leversedge), Minneapolis, MN, Clare Caffrey (Jay Schrader), St. Paul, MN , John Caffrey (Pam Super), Green Bay, Susan Caffrey (Marty Durdahl), Burnville, MN, Margaret Walshe (Tadhg), Bagenalstown, Ireland, Thomas (Mary Jo) Caffrey, Green Bay, and Daniel Caffrey, Green Bay.

Janet will be missed for her big heart, her understanding, and her dry sense of humor.
