Judith Eleanor Sloan

January 3, 1940 — April 30, 2021

Judith Eleanor Sloan, age 81 of Green Bay, passed away on April 30, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.  Judy was born on January 3, 1940 to the late Ray and Esther (Couvillion) Engels in Green Bay, WI.  She attended West High School, graduating with Honors in 1958 and later, attending St. Norbert’s College.  Judy worked at George’s Gray Street Market, Wisconsin Finance, and H.C. Prange’s.  In July, 1960, Judy married James R. Sloan, Jr.Our favorite things were her ability to listen and provide guidance on all matters, to suggest colorful and unusual perennials for the garden, to read and suggest the latest mystery and spy thriller novels, to bake the best cakes, cookies and scones, to remember the family history and relate their stories and pictures, and above all else, to love and challenge her husband, Jim, on a daily basis and keep him on his toes. Judy patiently coached her children for many, many hours through the nightmare of “new” math.  She also spent a great deal of time reading poetry and stories to her kids, as well as building many snowmen with them when they were young. Judy was an example of strength and courage. We remember Judy as a thoughtful, funny, gracious, supportive, well-loved woman who spent many days gardening, reading, baking, shopping and traveling with her husband.Judy’s greatest accomplishments were raising three happy and wonderful children and loving her husband, Jim, for 60 years - an anniversary celebrated this past July. In addition to her family members, she will be missed by her longtime friends Ellen Olson and Karen Redmond.
She is survived by her husband, James R. “Jim” Sloan, Jr., daughters; Diane (Phil) Steffen and Debra (Roger) Gerard, and son, Steven Sloan, grandchildren; Adam Glennon, Patrick Steffen, and Avery Gerard and great grandchildren; Conner Glennon, Gianna Glennon, and Aubrey Steffen. Judy is further survived by her sister, Mary (Ollie) Morella as well as many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Sue Ann Engels, in childhood.
