Katherine Schuster

March 5, 1955 — February 10, 2022

Katherine (Kathy) Schuster, age 66, of De Pere, passed away peacefully at her home on February 10, 2022. The daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Moenssens) De Vleeshower was born on March 5, 1955 in Green Bay.

Kathy graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy and later attended NWTC. She spent a few years at Metropolitan Sewage District in Green Bay before devoting her professional career to Procter & Gamble, from which she retired in 2002. She eventually decided to re-enter the workforce, first working part-time for Home Depot and then returning to her specialty of Human Resources at SuperValu Distribution.

Kathy enjoyed spending time on the patio with a cup of coffee in the morning sunshine. She deeply appreciated the conversation and companionship of longtime friend and neighbor Cliff Thomas. She looked forward to the occasional trip to the bingo hall, a weekend getaway to the casino or a quiet spot amid nature, exploring New England, or visiting her daughter in Madison, where she would make appearances on her daughter's radio show. Kathy's quick wit and sense of humor made her a fan favorite.

Kathy will be remembered for the warm and caring person she was, and for her unending generosity. She loved her children and grandson very much. She extended that same love to Marcus Reyes, who was like a second grandchild to her.

Kathy is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia of Madison and Jennifer of De Pere, and her partner Dana Hutchinson of De Pere. She leaves behind one grandchild, Riley Vanden Heuvel of De Pere. Kathy was the sister of Marge Calaway, Barb Drzewiecki, and Mary Jo De Vleeshower. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sandy De Vleeshower, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brother, David De Vleeshower, brothers-in-law Bob Drzewiecki and Bernard Calaway, and niece Nancy (Calaway) Duerr.

The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Sue Hanson, Bobbie Stangel, and Cindy Walter-Willems for their time, support, and assistance throughout Kathy's recovery from stroke and eventual entry into home hospice. They also wish to thank the attentive members of Kathy's care team from Unity Hospice, especially Nurse Lizzie, for their guidance and patient-focused compassionate care.

With Kathy’s heart so caring, no neighborhood cat went hungry and few went homeless. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton, Wis, which is working to find the perfect home for Kathy's beloved cats.

In accordance with Kathy's wishes, there will be no service.
