Melvin A. Olsen, 76, of Denmark, died on Saturday, November 1 of complications after heart surgery, with Marleen sitting by his bed side. Melvin was born in Denmark, WI on January 23, 1938 to the late Harvey and Pearl (Hansen) Olsen. Melvin married Marleen Pautz on September 24, 1960 at Henrysville Lutheran Church. Melvin was in the National Guard for many years. Melvin had a Mobil gas route for 13 years, was a real estate broker, and later became interested in being a salesman for Farm and Commercial buildings. He worked for Morton Buildings and Jack Walters Sons, and during that time he was always one of the top ten salesmen, and the reward was a trip for a week to ten days, and Melvin and Marleen traveled to many islands including Hawaii, and also to Mexico and Spain. Melvin then worked for Wick Buildings until his retirement. During all these years, Melvin also worked on the family farm. Melvin was a life long member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Denmark. He was a long time member of the Rod and Gun Club. He loved fixing cars and collecting tractors, flower gardening, fishing, hunting, and playing cards and shaking dice with his friends. Survivors include his wife, Marleen, one daughter and son-in-law, Lori Ann and Russel Casterlin, Birmingham, AL, three sons and daughters-in-law. Daniel and Brenda Olsen, West Palm Beach, FL, Robert and Deanna Olsen, Madison, and Gary and Melissa Olsen, Marshfield, three loving grandchildren, Joshua, Julia, and Sarah, one sister and brother-in-law Carol and Earl Metzler, Fl, and Iron River, MI; Marleen’s brother and sisters, Delmar (Mary Jane) Pautz, AZ, Emogene (Jerry) Larsen, Garnette (Darrell) Rukamp; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Pearl Olsen, one sister, Donna, and his mother in-law and father-in-law, Laura and Clarence Pautz. Friends may visit on Thursday November 6, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Denmark, from 9:00am-11:00am. Funeral service will be held at 11:00am with Pastor Andy Zoerb officiating. Entombment will be in the Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Cotter Funeral Home of Denmark is assisting the family.
