Robert A. (Bob) Berg, age 99, of De Pere, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Rennes Health Center. The son of the late Henry Berg, Jr. and Jennie (Cornelissen) Berg was born in De Pere on August 21, 1915. He was a 1933 graduate of De Pere High School, and later attended trade school to learn printing. Bob worked at Heyrman Printing from 1933-1935, Worzella’s Printing in Stevens Point from 1935-1937 and the De Pere Journal Democrat from 1937-1941. After serving his country during WWII in the US Army from 1942-1945, Bob was employed at the Green Bay Press Gazette until his retirement in 1972. On July 26, 1941 Bob married Elizabeth Mary DesRochers at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, De Pere. He enjoyed bowling, square dancing, golf, traveling and card games, especially sheepshead. He also enjoyed many cribbage games, always asking others to play. During the winter months, he enjoyed staying with his son, Tom, and family in South Carolina and spending his days golfing with Tom. An avid Packer fan, Bob was pleased to receive a Packer football autographed by Brett Favre when he turned 90. The many organizations he was involved in included: volunteering for the Press-Gazette Credit Union loan approvals, coaching little league baseball, serving as secretary/treasurer and vice-president for the Golden K, being an usher at St. Francis Xavier Parish, and having been an officer of the Holy Name Society at St. Francis. His children remember Bob sharing many stories from his youth, particularly about his sporting endeavors in basketball and baseball. One of his favorite memories from his early years was being carried off the field after the hitting the game winning home run in extra innings. Bob is survived by his children, Retired Major Thomas (Sharon) Berg, Simpsonville, SC; Mary (Joseph) Gagnon, De Pere; Gerald (Marie) Berg, Green Bay; Patricia (Randy) Jaeckels, New Holstein; grandchildren, Lt. Col. Robert (Leaha) Berg; Andrew (Kelsie) Berg; Claire Berg; Robert (Melissa) Gagnon; Anthony (Carol) Gagnon; Amy Gagnon (significant other, Josh Rohland); Aaron (Leslie) Berg; Dr. Kristin Berg (significant other, Christopher Pritchard); Kimberly (Raymond) Reilly; Alyssa (Matthew) Luckow; Nathan (Dana) Jaeckels; great-grandchildren, Madeline; Aspen; Thomas; Felise; Trae; Henry; Gabe; JJ; Kiernan; Kylie; Landon; sister-in-law, Kay Berg; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; granddaughter, Renee Gagnon; brothers, Don Berg; Francis (Evelyn) Berg; Harley (Helen) Berg; sister, Myrtle (Louis) Dubord; sisters-in-law, Sister Wilma DesRochers; Sister Bernice DesRochers; Sister Josepheda DesRochers; and brother-in-law, Dorian DesRochers. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere, on Friday, January 2, from 4-7pm, with a parish prayer service concluding the evening at 7pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St, De Pere, from 10:00-10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday with the Rev. Richard Getchel officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. Bob’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Renaissance Assisted Living and Rennes Health Center for the care and concern shown to Bob.
