Robert I. Jensen, 88, Green Bay, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2010. Bob was born April 12, 1922 in Racine WI, the son of Danish immigrants, Soren and Anna (Hansen) Jensen. After graduating from Washington Park High School in Racine, he worked at Massey Harris Co. and J.I. Case Co. in Racine prior to entering military service. During WWII, he served in Europe as a member of the U.S. Army's 69th Panther Division. Following the war he earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On Dec. 18, 1949, he married his beloved wife of 50 years, Glenna Johnson of Grand Forks, N.D. During the 1970's, he served as treasurer of the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra. A skilled tinkerer and all around handyman, he spent many happy hours working on cars, appliances and other machines, and building or repairing “just about anything” for family and neighbors alike. He enjoyed reading history, listening to classical music, traveling, long walks, and a variety of outdoor activities. Throughout his life, he was a dedicated supporter of the environment, education, social justice and equality. Following his retirement, he volunteered at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts and at Bellin Hospital (1996 to the present) and attended classes offered by UW-GB's Learning in Retirement program. Above all else, Bob found joy and contentment in the company of his family and friends. A loving father and grandfather, Bob is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Darrell Askins, Sturgeon Bay; Louise and Dale Jellings, Madison; Nancy and Darwin Hauser, Bloomington, MN; seven beloved grandchildren Jacquelyn, Matthew and Erik Askins, Mason and Evan Jellings, and Colin and Darby Borsos; his cousin, Norman Hansen of Racine; and many nieces and nephews.
