Verna L. Schmidt, 90, of De Pere, was called to her eternal home on April 27, 2014. Verna was born on December 9th 1923 to the late Carl and Amanda (Salzsieder) Schultz. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Maribel, WI. On March 2nd 1946 Verna married Carl W. Schmidt. Together they shared 53 wonderful years. Carl preceded her in death on October 15th 1998. After high school Verna was employed with the Teamsters 619 of Manitowoc. She had also worked for the De Pere Journal and Trudell Insurance Company. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, counted cross stitch, card games, and the many wonderful and memorable times that were spent at their cottage in Pembine with family and friends. Verna and Carl were charter members of Hope Lutheran Church, were their devotion, commitment, and their love for their Lord and their church was apparent in all that they did, and by all whose lives they touched. One great-granddaughter, Anna Feltheim. Verna is also survived by her two sisters-in-law; Audrey Schwann, Florida; and Alice Schmidt, De Pere; and brother-in-law Donald Schmidt, Wayside. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Adeline (Lee) Fels, and Anita (Othmer) Gruetzmacher, and her brother Marvin (Carol) Schultz. Sisters and brothers-in-law; Leonora Beimborn, Irene Schmidt, Lila Schlittenhart, Norbert Schmidt, Vernon Schmidt, Robert Schmidt, Ruth Appleby, and Otto Schmidt. Friends may call at Hope Lutheran Church, 700 S. Superior Street, De Pere on Thursday, May 1, from 9:00-10:45am. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am, at the church, with Pastor Bo Baumeister officiating. Entombment will be at Nicolet Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
