Winfred A. Simon

March 21, 1933 — August 27, 2016

Winfred Anthony Simon, Jr., 83, of Allouez, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 27, 2016, at Unity Residence. He was born on March 21, 1933 in Green Bay to Winfred A. Sr. and Violet (Boyer) Simon. He attended East High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force at 17 years old. First he was sent to Texas for training, and then eventually was stationed in Germany shortly after the Berlin Airlift. He enjoyed the German food and beer. He gained much needed weight but lost it all on the ship coming home after his discharge four years later. With the help of his father, he was taken to Charmin Paper Mill two days later, and was hired immediately. Win was employed by now Proctor and Gamble for 38 years. On November 26, 1960, he was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Giles at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Allouez. They were blessed with 3 sons, Paul (Diane), Steve (Lisa), and Tom; grandson Adam (Stephanie); granddaughter Sara (PJ); great-granddaughters Morgyn and Kairi and great-grandson Ian. He enjoyed watching the Packers, having been a season ticket holder for 35 years and was even lucky enough to be at the Snow Bowl and the Ice Bowl. Win will be greatly missed as a beloved husband, loving father and grandfather. He is also survived by two sisters, Donna (Ken) De Bauche, of AR; and Sandy Van Ven Roy, of De Pere; sister-in-law, Gloria Lieb; and brother-in-law, John Giles; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, and a niece. Family and friends may visit at Allouez Chapel Mausoleum, 2121 Riverside Dr., Allouez, on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am with Rev. Robert Kabat officiating. Cotter Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.cotterfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the N.E.W. Zoo, Unity Hospice, or any charities of your choice. We wish to thank his sister, Sandy, for the care she gave him weekly, along with Unity Hospice and his friends and neighbors who stopped by to see him. The family is also grateful beyond measure for the comfort and care given to Win by the Unity Hospice nurses at his house these past couple of months, as well as the past week at the Unity Residence. God bless all of you! Love Forever, P
